EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence-based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 177 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) – funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.

EGPAF in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (Health Technical Support Services Directorate) seeks to feel the following positions below.

Note:  The Physical Assets Management Division in the Health Technical Support Services Directorate of the Ministry is responsible for management of medical equipment in the Ministry. The primary mandate of the Division is to formulate policies for medical equipment management in the public health sector of Malawi and ensuring the functionality of medical equipment in hospitals at all times, ensuring standards are met and coordinating partners who support the Ministry in matters related to the equipment management

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

  • Support in the development of equipment standards and specifications manual
  • Coordinate activities together with MoH to identify and understand further challenges in equipment management
  • Lead efforts in acquiring feedback from stakeholders in the equipment standards and specifications through survey etc.
  • Assess the state of medical equipment, diagnostic systems and transport systems in the country and estimate gaps and needs for procurement, maintenance training and rehabilitation
  • Medical Equipment Information System interfacing with other management information systems through Digital Health
  • Link equipment needs with human resource, infrastructure standards, equipment standards, high-quality patient care and development plans at the different levels of the health system
  1. Coordinate with Health Infrastructure Division in the Ministry to quantify infrastructure upgrade/modification requirements for health facilities in relation to medical equipment.
  2. Consult on and understand the health services delivery and human resource development trajectories to inform equipment and diagnostic systems development
  • Assess the systems for medical equipment procurement at the national and implementation levels and recommend more efficient systems
  • Assess the system of tracking the functionality of medical equipment and make recommendations accordingly
  • Assess the system tracking the health care technology, advancement in relation to available technical specification
  • Recommend testing tools and procedures for performance check of medical equipment
  • Promote planning and scheduling of medical equipment maintenance

To be successful, you will need to have:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in biomedical engineering with 5 years minimum experience in medical equipment maintenance.
  • Should demonstrate an understanding of the equipment landscape for Malawi
  • Experience in market analytics for medical devices
  • Understanding of equipment specifications and medical devices for Malawi
