Environmental health / WASH Technician external activities
Workplace : Lilongwe
Type of contract : 1 Month Contract
Start date : As soon as possible
Main purpose of the position
Supporting the Watsan Supervisor in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MSF protocols, stand-ards and procedures in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population
Main responsibilities
Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.
Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and when applicable, of the medical facilities;
Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or hygiene agents for Watsan activities
Informing the Watsan Supervisor of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility;
Assisting the Watsan Supervisor in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities
Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need of renewal and the weekly/monthly consumption
GIS Support:
– directing data collection teams
– transmit data to supervisor/manager
– Identify relevant distribution/chlorination points throughout the community
– Identify potential handwashing points
Water in communities:
– With the help of his supervisor, support the HSA team for the distribution of chorine in the communities
– Assist in identifying relevant community water points and train teams of volunteers and HSAs to set up water bucket chlorination.
– With the help of his supervisor, conduct pumping tests in wells.
– With the help of his supervisor, conduct chlorine demand tests.
– Implement free community drinking water points, maintain and supply them
– In charge of the monitoring and maintenance of submersible solar pump and piping.
– Monitor the quantity of water supplied and the quality (Free Residual Chlorine)
– Chlorine consumption follow up and order
Oral rehydration points / stabilization points CTU (4 Facilities):
– Train the HSA teams to produce the necessary chlorine solutions for cholera use
– Train teams in proper cleaning techniques and waste management
– Support the Logistics team in the implementation of ORPs and stabilization units (washing areas / latrines)
– Ensure that the waste from the facilities to which he is assigned is sent to the CTC of Bwaila hospital
– Consumables consumption follow up and order
Requirements
Education
Technical certification or proven background, desirable specialization in water and sanitation
Experience
Previous experience in technical works`
Language
Local language and basic level of English essential
Knowledge
Computer literacy
