Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit Christian Organization aiming at improving housing conditions in Malawi. HFHM was established in Malawi in 1986 and has assisted over 41,000 families through different housing solutions. In addition to housing, HFHM has undertaken water and sanitation projects and also Disaster Prevention and Recovery in peri-urban and rural areas.
Habitat for Humanity Malawi has the following vacant position to be filled in support of the of its main activities at the National Office – LILONGWE.
Job Title: Disaster Relief Officers

Job Summary:
To promote HFHM Disaster Risk Reduction & Response mission; to help develop innovative housing and shelter assistance models that generate sustainable interventions for people vulnerable to or affected by disasters or conflicts. Conduct disaster responses that builds the capacity of the community in the areas of disaster mitigation, preparedness and recovery through education, training, and partnerships.
Reports To: DRRR Coordinator
Main Responsibilities:

- Contribute significantly to the development of humanitarian and emergency proposals, concept papers, and public relations material. Provide detailed technical input to program designs and assist with preparation of needs assessment reports to inform program response priorities.
- Lead and Backstop humanitarian programs, field assessment teams, or emergency response teams in the district/ communities.
- Demonstrate best practices in emergency response and leadership in furthering HFHM’s DRRR programming. Be conversant with Humanitarian Standard Operating Procedures and Core humanitarian Standards.
- Champion Beneficiary identification and verification exercise
- Plan and lead relief distribution exercise
- Act as the disaster management focal point in the district by coordinating all project activities with the district council, and representing HFHM in all Shelter cluster, DCPC and DEC meetings.
- Support in managing budget, work planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of DRR activities.
- Contribute significantly to the development project reports.
- Manage inventory and submit inventory reports.
- Support construction of temporarily shelters, and transitional shelters
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to use Microsoft software.
- Willingness to work during odd hours.
Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma in Community development
Experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years in Disaster Risk Reduction and Response projects or project management.
- Experience in implementing and managing donor funded projects.
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build relationships at all levels, considering cultural and language differences.
- Experience in cooperating with district councils, local organizations, and local structures
