Brief Background
Rays of Hope Ministries is a non-profit organization that collaborates with the Malawi government in the achievement of critical development goals present in the Malawi 2063 agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization is based out of Blantyre and operates in Zomba, Mchinji, Ntchisi, Thyolo, and Lilongwe.
In partnership with the Save the Children International (SCI), we are in a consortium of four (4) organizations – SCI, Future4All, and Youth for Development and Productivity (YODEP) to implement Abwenzi A Ana project in Ntcheu.
Abwenzi A Ana is a program designed so that Children in Ntcheu, particularly the marginalized/excluded are protected from all forms of abuse, have a healthy start to life, benefit from inclusive, quality education and make a successful transition to adulthood. Such a goal begs for an integrated implementation approach, and Abwenzi A Ana adopted an ecological model to confront the root causes of abuse. To that end, we seek to recruit three versatile field officers with the following specific competencies.
Job Abstract
Abwenzi A Ana is a unique program that intends to shift the power to the people, especially the youth, to be their own agents of change in confronting challenges affecting their livelihood with a substantial urgency. The incumbent shall possess strong facilitation skills to curate the dynamics of power in the provision of basic education to children in Ntcheu.
The incumbent will facilitate the effective running of the basic education-related components in the Abwenzi A Ana program ensuring that all children, especially girls, access quality and relevant education as a pathway to ending sexual violence and exploitation. Specifically, the job holder will contribute to ensuring that formal and informal educational systems, structures and practices achieve their primary mandates and are responsive to sexual violence and exploitation issues.
Key Areas of Accountability
I. Program Implementation Quality
· Monitor and provide timely, relevant, and accurate feedback on the progress of school and community structure-based activities
· Work closely with key community and school structures, and consortium partners to ensure quality layering and integration of Abwenzi A Ana program pieces
· Prepare quality and timely activity reports to the Programs Manager/Supervisor that are relevant to the provision of basic education and feed into the program’s results framework
· Provide relevant input during all planning activity and implementation phases paying attention to adaptive management
II. Coordination
· Support in the coordination, reinforcement, and the functionality of youth-led groups, networks, and other community structures in creating conducive environments for children in school
· Activate/strengthen existing school and community structures to create space where female teachers actively participate in ensuring that girls at risk stay in school
· Lead in community inter-structure conversations with the subsequent provision of quality education for children in and out of school
· Support sensitization forums in partnership with the school and community structures curating conversations around quality basic education provision
III. Community Mobilization
· Mobilize relevant structures at individual, family, and community level to prevent violence and exploitation in support of Girls Education
· Support in strengthening the voice of local community structures giving space for organic contribution in shifting the power to children and youth in the attainment of education goals
· Catalyze networking and mobilization works with various stakeholders present in the community to create a conducive learning environment.
· Induce organic shifts of norms, attitudes, and behaviors to protect vulnerable children in school using relevant social behavior change approaches
IV. Facilitation
· Facilitate a process where community and school structures acquire and improve their skills in carrying out roles and responsibilities especially towards the provision of quality basic education
· Support in the keeping accountable existing community and school structures to own their roles and responsibilities
· Facilitate skill uptake of existing school and community structures such as PTAs/SMCs to effectively carry out their roles and responsibilities around the provision of equitable basic education
· Create opportunities where organic conversations around the provision of quality exist between vulnerable children, their families, and the community at large
Qualifications
Degree or diploma from an accredited institution of higher learning in either of the following: social sciences, education, and international development and education-related qualifications
At least a minimum of two years of work experience in program implementation or other related fields; work experience in the development setting (NGO) is a plus
