Job Summary
The role is responsible for coordinating, planning, and leading Information Technology (IT) activities in Malawi. The IT Manager helps determine the IT needs of the organization and is responsible for implementing technology systems to fulfill the organization’s information systems and operational requirements.
Job Description
- Management
- Identifying and implementing new technology requirements of the organisation as well as opportunities to improve and update software and systems
- Managing the development or otherwise procurement of customized or off-the-shelf solutions that become part of the company’s information technology systema
- Developing and implementing IT policy and best practice guides for the organisation
- Designing training programs that ensure the correct skills are available within the organisation
- Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and planned outages
- Management of the IT Department budget, procurement and general financial affairs as a cost centre within the organisation
- Reporting on the activities of the department to the Directors of the company and any other committee or organ within the organisation
- Recruitment and management of staff within the IT Department
- Analyze business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs
- Governance
- In consultation with relevant stakeholders, define IT infrastructure strategy, architecture that form the backbone of the company’s technology core
- Devising and implementing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to govern the access, use and maintenance of all the organisation’s technological systems and data
- Conducting regular system audits to ensure all SOPs and standards are being adhered to
- Be fully abreast with all laws, regulations and benchmarks that the company adheres to, and ensure that the company’s technology systems and processes are compliant at all times
- Design and implement testing strategies that ensure all the company’s technology meets quality assurance standards before being deployed for use
- Operations
- Monitor performance of information technology systems to ensure availability, access, cost and productivity levels are maintained, and to make recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure
- Advanced troubleshooting hardware and software issues related to all technology systems used within the organisation
- Conduct or assist in the reconciliation of all transactions that occur on the company’s technology systems
- Development
- Management of development requests and delivery of developed features
- Developing test scripts for User Acceptance Tests (UATs) and ensuring all production systems have passed UAT and internal quality assurance
- Documentation and resolution of system bugs and issues within timeframes set out in the SOPs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, B Tech in Information Technology, Information Systems;
- Advanced demonstrated development skills and back-end database development
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in managing teams/people management
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in IT support roles
- Proven experience in managing IT infrastructure and services
- Sound knowledge of network management and monitoring
- Working knowledge of public cloud services
- Experience w/ DevOps principles and practices.
