JOB TITLE: TRAINING SPECIALIST- MECHANIC
BASED AT UNITRANS MALAWI , NCHALO DEPOT

Unitrans Africa has an exciting new opportunity for a Training Specialist- Mechanic based at Nchalo Depot, Chikwawa to keep fleet units operational, monitor the performance of other mechanics, assess skill levels and conduct skills modules for mechanics, and assist in the training and development of apprentices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Trade tested artisan (City and Guilds equivalent), educated at a technical institution.
  • Diesel mechanic experience of minimum 5 years, preferably in transport and farming equipment
  • Time avaliability: willingness to work nights and weekends as workload requires.

Scope of Responsibilities
The scope of responsibilities of the Training Specialist- Mechanic is to service, maintain and repair all types of
trucks, trailers and heavy equipment entering the workshop and that all fleet units achieve maximum productivity. As a diesel specialist the mechanic trains, develops and mentors continuously mechanics and mechanical apprentices.

Outline of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all fleet units entering the workshop are well maintained and serviced and kept in safe and good working order
  • Ensure fleet units are kept dean and cosmetically well maintained so the brand is professionally presented
    Provide detailed Information to Workshop Manager about spares needs and correctly and accurately fill in the Job Cards
  • Ensure that all trucks and trailers entering the workshop have Job Cards, the Bay has been correctly allocated to the Job Card when the truck enters and Job Card is closed when the truck leaves
  • Report all problems with the trucks/trailers or potentially dangerous situations to the that might result in accidents to the Workshop Manager
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOP) provided by the manufacturer of the machine/vehicle or
    Its agent
  • When necessary, test drive (In cases where no special license is required) vehicles to ensure that they are
    functioning appropriately
  • Wherever possible use second hand spares to reduce costs and waste
  • Monitor the tasks of the workshop employees ensuring the timely completion of their tasks
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Service (HSES) regulations for all work processes in the
    workshop
  • Take responsibility for the work area and ensure a professional working environment and cleanliness at all
    time
  • Ensure the appropriate usage and handling of machines, tools and repair equipment
  • Supervise and support the workshop team, ensuring a high level of motivation, discipline and morale is
    maintained at all times
  • Assess the skill levels of other mechanics in the workshop and implement skills improvement modules.
  • Assist in the training and development of apprentices, including the administration of their logbooks and assessments.
  • Ensure that all workshop accidents are reported to the Workshop Manager
  • Perform other tasks as may be required by the Workshop Manager.
