The Malawi Electoral Commission, “the Commission”, is a body created under Section 75(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, to supervise, direct and preside over the conduct of all elections in Malawi. In accordance with Section 13 of the Electoral Commission Act, the Commission seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons with relevant experience to fill the following vacant positions that exist within its secretariat:
Job Title : Civic and Voter Education Officer
Grade : C6
Responsible to : Regional Elections Manager-(South)
Purpose
To design and implement the delivery of civic and voter education strategy for MEC.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement the C&VE strategies and programs.
- Participate in the development, review and implementation of C&VE programs.
- Liaise with other stakeholders in C&VE matters.
- Report writing on the impact and effectiveness of C&VE strategies, programs and materials.
- Participate in identifying C&VE service providers.
- Participate in identifying target group C&VE.
- Develop and Implement C&VE manuals.
- Supervise staff in the regions on the core activities.
- Train C&VE stakeholders on the core activities of the C&VE programs.
- Design and type-setting C&VE materials using various computer packages.
- Suggest and initiate to the Director of C&VE other innovative and effective ways of conducting C&VE.
- Ensure safe custody of C&VE materials at the Region.
- Pre-testing materials for C&VE.
- Sensitize voters on electoral processes to promote free, fair and credible elections.
- Conduct public meetings with traditional leaders and other
- Prepare departmental Election Budgets stakeholders.
- Participate C&VE feedback to the Director of C&VE
- Participate in evaluation research on the impact and effectiveness of C&VE.
- Monitor and evaluate on the impact and effectiveness of C&CE Strategies,
- Programs and Materials.
Requisite Academic Qualifications and Experience Desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences; Journalism, and Mass Communication or equivalent with at least two (2) years relevant work experience
Core Competencies
- Ability to work under pressure and under minimum supervision.
- Fluency in English and any other local languages
- Report writing
