AFIDEP together with researchers from the University of Southampton (UK) and the University of Portsmouth (UK) in collaboration with Gates Ventures (GV) is implementing a project that is aimed at identifying countries that have outperformed their peers in Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR) while controlling for differences in other socio-economic factors. The project further seeks to understand the contextual factors that have contributed to the successes of the identified countries.
AFIDEP intends to hire a Research Intern for a period of 6 months to conduct in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, transcription of audio records, literature and information searching and analysis of qualitative data.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the intern will be to:
- Conduct in-depth interviews with government officials, representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), district council officials, health care workers, and chiefs.
- Facilitate FDGs with very young adolescents (10-14 years) and older adolescents (15-19 years) in two selected districts.
- Transcribe the audio records verbatim (e., recorded word for word, exactly as said) and proofread their transcription against the audio records.
- Support literature review and information searching to inform other deliverables in the project.
- Read all the study transcripts and engage in coding and thematic analysis.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Public Health, or equivalent.
- Communications skills (writing, in-person, moderating/facilitating).
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and within a team.
- Strong IT skills with excellent command of Microsoft Office Packages.
- Proven experience in the areas above is required.
