GAIA Malawi is a non -governmental organization that provides primary health care services targeting prevention, care and support in communities affected by high disease burden. GAIA works in partnership with the District Health Offices of the Ministry of Health through the GAIA Mobile Health Clinic program to increase access to health services in high need and under -served rural areas. GAIA provides support for PLHIV, education for orphans and under-privileged children at primary and secondary level, and it promotes retention of staff in the public health sector workforce through provision of the GAIA Nursing Scholarship in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

GAIA seeks to employ qualified personnel for the position of Projects Coordinator who will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating implementation of the Community Based Health activities in Mulanje, Phalombe and Mangochi districts.

Reports to : Programs Manager

Location : Mulanje

Job responsibilities.

  • Review existing policies and procedures and establish a work plan matrix
  • Review and improve standard operating procedures
  • Ensure that activity implementation is well aligned with the existing strategic plan, district plans and annual budget.
  • Conduct supportive supervision of all community health activities and promote appropriate and productive attitude among staff.
  • Assess personnel performance and form a plan for improvement of Mobile Health Clinic Teams to ensure quality of services provided and compliance with government policies.
  • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to track and analyze data in order to formulate strategies for improvement of care and development of tools that would help promote high standards of services provided to the beneficiaries
  • Represent GAIA in activities at a district level
  • Identify internal training needs, plan capacity building training, assist in training of staff and ensure staff attend continuous professional development to improve standards of care and for professional growth.
  • In collaboration with the Programs Manager lead development of annual activity budgets, annual/quarterly work plans
  • Manage staff performance and work in office to handle administrative duties to help meet organizational goals.
  • Participate in priority-setting for community-based health activities, as well as design and implementation of new activities as required by changes in public health or funding priorities.
  • Participate in evaluation of programs to inform decision making
  • Participate in implementing continuous quality improvement of supply chain and inventory systems, including a drug inventory tracking system and maintaining field office fixed assets inventory
  • In collaboration with the Programs Manager lead biweekly calls with members covering program implementation updates.
  • Some travel to conduct oversight in Mangochi district as needed.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelors in Nursing and Midwifery, Public Health, Health Management Systems or any related field.
  • Those with Master of Public Health, Nursing and Midwifery, Health services management, Community Health Nursing or equivalent will have an added advantage
  • Experience in quality improvement strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Government of Malawi priorities and evidenced-based practices aimed at improving the quality of and access to health services.
  • Health systems oriented and strong understanding of government systems and procedures for planning and coordination at the district level
  • Demonstrated skills in managing teams and finances
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and the ability to develop and deliver technical presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret research findings and apply them to the Malawian context when required.
  • Familiarity with district implementation structures and coordination
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in developing and reviewing SoPs and guidelines.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft suite, google drive. Experience working with CommCare, Logistimo and Power BI is an advantage.
  • Familiarity in setting and organizing virtual meetings/conferences
  • Track record of managing complex teams with minimum supervision.
