The Blantyre SPCA is a Malawian NGO that is working in collaboration with international charities, such as Mission Rabies and WVS, towards the elimination of dog bite-transmitted human rabies in Malawi. We do this by running canine rabies mass vaccination campaigns, rabies surveillance, and education. We are a small but passionate NGO who have successfully implemented this approach to rabies elimination across 3 districts in Southern Malawi and have exciting opportunities to expand our work.
We are looking for a hard-working and passionate individual, who is able to manage and oversee our campaign and help with the development and running of new projects within Malawi. Due to the complexity of managing such a campaign, applicants should be experienced in managing their own workload, be organised and be able to adhere to strict timelines. The successful candidate will report to the head office in Blantyre but will also need to communicate with Mission Rabies teams and other stakeholders in a variety of countries.
Essential skills
- A Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Medicine or MSc in Public Health or Animal Health related sciences
- Experience planning, running, and managing projects
- Fluent in Chichewa and English
- Experience managing budgets and timelines
- Experience managing teams
- Ability to work to a tight schedule and under pressure
- Able to use Microsoft Office (Suite and 365), and be comfortable using a laptop, smartphone, as well as willing to adapt to other software platforms
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with government officials and public stakeholders
- Report writing
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Be flexible and be able to work in an evolving environment
Desired
- Understanding of zoonotic diseases (in particular rabies), their transmission and control
- Experience working for and/or with international organisations
