The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. Job Summary/Overall Responsibility

The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating efforts related to the Prevention of Developmental Delay and Xylitol (PDDaX) Study in Malawi. This will include working under the supervision of the PI  and assigned investigators. She/he assists in working with the community health workers as part of the in-country study team that will recruit, consent, and perform the neurodevelopmental assessments and further evaluations as part of the PDDaX study.  She/he will oversee and ensure quality data entry at all times of the study.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Help problem-solve and overcome any unforeseen barriers or obstacles that present themselves throughout the course of the study
• Work with the Baylor Centre of Excellence staff to ensure all PDDaX study operations are in alignment with local ordinances and guidelines including the local IRB/NHSRC guidelines
• Assist in ensuring study participants have scheduled visits with the study dentist and help overcome any unforeseen issues that may arise to ensure all participants receive dental evaluation
• Assist in ensuring biospecimens are collected, stored, and shipped in a high-quality, safe, and appropriate manner
• Prepare the clinic rooms for counseling and examinations for all study visits
• Ensures that all clients have their respective biometrics (height, weight, and other aspects) obtained and documented appropriately
• Obtain appropriate and necessary data from study participants as part of the study
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for self/staff and client care at all times
• Oversee and collect data and information from the individual patient/client in a non-judgmental environmental where patients and caregivers feel safe and comfortable
• Participate in outreach and training programs which may be conducted outside the clinic
• Ensure availability of clinic resources in collaboration with the clinic supervisors
• Ensures data entry is accurate and entered in a timely manner
• Carry out responsibilities as delegated by the study staff from time to time
• Communicates frequently with primary and co-investigators of grant/study

Qualification and Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or other related field from a reputable University
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Coordinator
• Experience or training in neurodevelopmental assessments, clinical trials, and/or epidemiology will be an added advantage
• Trained and has experience in child development and health.
• Leadership skills
• Excellent communication skills,
• Able to listen patiently and carefully and carry out designated tasks
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work in a team environment and show respect care towards patients/clients.
• Willing to learn and oversee neurodevelopmental testing of 5–8-year old children in Malawi and associated quality data input into an electronic database
