The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children and families with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. We have a vibrant and thriving maternal health program main site at Area 25 Health Facility that ensures prevention/reduction of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and maternal morbidity and mortality.  We are situated within the Kamuzu Central Hospital premises, opposite Kamuzu College of Nursing.

BCMCF-M invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following position:

Position:            Anesthetists (2)
Reports to:        Maternal Health Program Director
Locations:         Area 25 Health Facility and KCH  

PURPOSE  OF THE POSITION

Anesthetist will be assessing patient’s health and discuss which type of anesthetic is suitable for them, administer appropriate anesthetics before surgery, monitoring their well-being during surgery and provide care after medical procedures

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

1. Performing general anesthesia in theatre
2. Performing anesthetic regional and local blocks
3. Resuscitation of critically ill patients and new born babies in wards, casualty, intensive care unit and theatre
4. Management of cardiac and respiratory arrests
5. Intensive care management
6. Removal of foreign bodies in trachea and esophagus
7. Airway management in critically ill patients

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of Diploma in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine from a recognized institution
• 3+ years of experience at a busy Hospital
• Registered with Medical Council
• Excellent communicator
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues at all levels
• Passionate about caring for mothers
• Willing to work a flexible schedule including early morning and weekend
