The Malawi Electoral Commission, “the Commission”, is a body created under Section 75(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, to supervise, direct and preside over the conduct of all elections in Malawi. In accordance with Section 13 of the Electoral Commission Act, the Commission seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons with relevant experience to fill the following vacant positions that exist within its secretariat:
Job Title : Senior Electoral Services Officer (Demarcation)
Grade : C5
Responsible to : Director of Electoral Services
Purpose
To coordinate and manage all demarcation functions
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising the formulation, training and coordination of demarcation committees.
- Developing and reviewing demarcation guidelines.
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of demarcation procedures.
- Taking lead in field activities on demarcation.
- Drawing boundary descriptions and organizing public viewing and hearings or proposed boundaries.
- Researching, selecting and evaluating map source data for use in the preparation or review of ward/ constituency boundaries.
- Preparing special constituency/ ward maps.
- Checking and appraising the content and accuracy of maps, charts and printing proofs.
- Ensuring safe custody of maps and related equipment.
- Liaising with relevant external information providers such as MDAs.
- Producing appropriate reports as required from time to time.
Requisite Academic Qualifications and Experience Desired
- A minimum of master’s degree in any relevant field and a Bachelors degree in Surveying. Cartography with at least three (3) years relevant work experience.
