The Tea Research Foundation of Central Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified person to fill the following vacant position:

Technical Officer – Plant Breeding

Reporting to the Trainee Research Scientist, the duties and responsibilities shall include:

    • Assist scientists in the implementation, supervision and monitoring of field or laboratory activities
    • Assist in collection, compilation and statistical analysis of data from research trials
    • Develop and maintain an up-to-date data bank for all research projects
    • Train, supervise and provide technical guidance to assistants or labour in carrying out research activities
    • Undertake inspections and develop weekly and monthly work plans for all research activities
    • Assist scientist in conducting literature searches on various subjects or research areas
    • Compile monthly and quarterly progress reports for research experiments

Qualifications and Key Competences

    • Diploma in Agriculture or related field from a recognized institution
    • Two years of relevant experience in research work
    • Be innovative and able to work with minimum supervision
    • Good work planning and work organizational skills
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Possess good supervisory and report writing skills
    • Good knowledge of Statistical packages, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
    • Ability to meet targets on all assigned activities
