Partners in Hope (PIH) is a Malawian, Christ-centered, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2001 on a robust commitment to support the National HIV and AIDS Response in Malawi. PIH has a  Medical Centre that operates a general clinic (Dalitso); inpatient ward (Thandizo); an HIV and AIDS clinic (Moyo); and providing support to Ministry of Health, CHAM and Private health facilities in Nine districts.

PIH was awarded a  Cooperative Agreement No: 72061221CA00010  “Client-Oriented Response for HIV  Epidemic Control  (CORE)  Activity Component One (1)” by the United States of America PEPFAR through USAID. This award is for HIV Care and Treatment implementation in 9 districts: Scale up (Mulanje, Chikwawa and Lilongwe) Sustained (Nsanje, Dowa, Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Karonga, and Chitipa). Under the CORE Cooperative Agreement, PIH is seeking to recruit highly motivated individuals in Treatment Supporters positions to be deployed in various locations as per below:  Lilongwe, Karonga, Chitipa, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Kasungu, Dowa, Nkhotakoa and Mulanje

Overview :

Treatment supporters are Peer educators who have undergone a tailor-made HIV basic, peer support counselling training, and have a good understanding of HIV/AIDS care and treatment services, and who have counselling skills to help clients with their care and treatment. Treatment Supporters are uniquely placed to offer comprehensive psychosocial care and support to PLHIV. This improves the well-being of families, helps reduce stigma and discrimination, and consequently improves the quality of life of infected individuals, affected families and entire communities. To help improve service delivery, the Treatment supporter will safeguard delivery of under prescribed duties and responsibilities in compliance with the existing Partners in hope standard operating procedures

  Roles and Responsibilities

Demand Creation for HIV/ TB & COVID 19 Services 

  • Provide a conducive environment, which will aid client’s free expression .
  • Provide health talks in designated areas health facility and community areas to create demand for HIV testing, viral load uptake, TB, cervical cancer screening, PrEP, COVID 19 Vaccination uptake and other health related issues
  • Assist screening for Provider Initiated Testing and Counselling (PITC) eligibility in ART clinic and referral to HIV Diagnostic Assistants (HDAs) for HIV testing services
  • Support screening for Tuberculosis (TB) and Covid 19 vaccination in ART Clients and refer them to TB and/ Covid 19 vaccination within the facility.
  • Collaborate with HDAs for targeted community services provision i.e.

Linkage to care and treatment

  • Provide patients with referrals i.e. escorting HIV+ clients from HIV testing services to ART clinic, and also escorting PrEP clients
  • Provide comprehensive individualized quality counseling to promote linkage to care, adherence and continuity in treatment, including but not limited to pre-ART, disclosure, Positive living and Welcome services, including community services.
  • Work with HDAs to generate and collect the list of HIV+ clients including infants (HEI) and children not linked to care after 7 days and make follow up.

  • Work with other implementing partner doing community testing in order to assist linking of client tested positive in a community
  • Provide relevant feedback to healthcare providers who referred clients for other services in an appropriate and timely manner.

Back to care Programme

  • Work with Data clerk to organize Master cards and make pre- appointment phone call reminders
  • Documenting clients next appointment date in the Appointment diary through the use EMR and paper based
  • Generating the list follow up of both 7 days missed appointments, 28 days IIT, V1000+, and document them in the follow up register and ensure both are updated in EMR and Paper base monitoring tools
  • Proper documentation, management and storage of all back to care monitoring tools (Appointment Diary, follow up registers, Risk stratification register, and PSS register)
  • Compiling monthly and quarterly back care and other related programs reports-   Participating actively in monthly facility review meeting.

Psychosocial Support

  • Conduct risk stratification to clients and assign them to appropriate risk interventions.
  • Conduct mental health screening to eligible clients and offer them appropriate services based on guidelines
  • Refer all clients who have been stratified to appropriate services within and outside the facility
  • Conduct one on one psychosocial counselling to clients during ART clinic
  • Refer high risk clients who need advanced individualized counselling services to PSS
  • Provide comprehensive individualized counselling to clients with moderate risk
  • Provide disclosure support to clients who require sero-status disclosure help to their partners, family members and children
  • Manage and track cases (New positives, and 28 days Clients who are back to care) under case management model
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and clients at all times

Qualifications:

  • Malawi school certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Experience working in counselling / Diploma in psychosocial counselling will added advantage
