CURE International has an exceptional opportunity for a Construction Director. CURE is a faith-based non-profit organization operating a network of eight children’s hospitals throughout Africa and the Philippines. We provide world-class surgical care and intentional spiritual care to children living with treatable disabilities, all of which is free of charge to the patients and their families.

The Construction Director is responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating the construction activities at our CURE Hospitals. The Construction Director will regularly travel to all construction sites, supervising Construction Managers, and oversee the project from start to finish, including organizing the schedule of works, maintaining the budget, and adhering to quality standards. This position will be the direct senior CURE representative to oversee the project’s contractor(s) works and can be based at a CURE hospital location or remote and will require regular travel to CURE hospital locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Work with the Director of Equipment and Supply Chain to articulate and execute a procurement strategy for CURE International.
  2. Maintain a list of needed and appropriate equipment and supplies for CURE facilities.
  3. Coordinate and validate the specifications for supplies and equipment.
  4. Consistently seek to negotiate best price and terms from all vendors.
  5. Lead the procurement process and team to effectively procure the required supplies and equipment.
  6. Develop and maintain supplier partnerships and vendor relationships with major equipment and supply donors and sellers, working through these channels when specific requests or needs are identified (for equipment or supplies) to determine best methods of satisfying the needs.
  7. Effectively communicate and work with suppliers, freight forwarders, and CURE International hospital staff overseas.
  8. Ensure that appropriate communication takes place with hospital Executive Directors, physicians and purchasing & inventory officers as well as vendors, and individuals making donations.
  9. Develop and maintain a system to keep track of, and report on, all associated costs of procurement, logistics and shipping.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Certifications in one or more aspects of construction management (project management, health and safety, construction, environmental, etc.).
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture or construction management preferred.
  3. Intermediary ability/training/certification in Autodesk products (AutoCAD and REVIT).
  4. Intermediary knowledge of and basic technical (hands-on) abilities in various trade skills such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, surveying, welding, etc.
  5. Minimum of five (5) years of building construction project experience in the areas of major and minor projects, remodeling, and renovation.
  6. Previous experience in hospital / healthcare construction is essential.
  7. Background check will be required, if shortlisted.
  8. Proficient in English: Speech and Written Communication.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Also intermediary ability in Microsoft Project preferred.
  10. Proficient in PDF documents redlining and commenting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of engineering practices and principles for healthcare facilities.
  2. Knowledge of the construction standards, codes, and regulations pertaining to the construction and maintenance of structures and facilities.
  3. Pre-construction knowledge regarding costs of construction and maintenance. Ability to complete bid analyses.
  4. Ability to perform general construction tasks.
  5. Ability to administer and conduct a thorough and detailed inspection of buildings and facilities.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot and develop a list of recommendations to correct existing facilities and new construction problems.
  8. General understanding of lifecycle maintenance.

In addition, all candidates should be familiar with the Statement of Faith. This position requires the contractor to perform their duties in alignment with the declarations of the Statement of Faith.

PLEASE NOTE: This position will require significant travel (at least 50%) to the CURE hospitals.
