Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) in partnership with World Education Inc. /Bantwana (WEI/ Bantwana) is implementing a USAID funded Ana Patsogolo Project. The project sets out to change life trajectories for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and highly vulnerable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Malawi’s 8 districts in the Southern Region. These two overlapping populations live with escalated and intersecting risks for HIV infection, gender based violence and poor sexual and reproductive health and we need to provide solutions by integrating social protection supports and health services that will enable them not only adhere to treatment but also to thrive to adulthood.

GAIA in partnership with Bantwana seeks to recruit a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual for the position of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Coordinator tenable at GAIA Head Office in Limbe.

Job Summary

The MEAL Coordinator will be responsible for managing the M&E team across all districts implementing the APA activities under GAIA and will report to the Project Manager. The MEAL coordinator will work closely with the Project Manager to develop an overarching MEAL plan for the organization and will work with individual project officers and M&E officers to ensure there are current logic models with an associated M&E plan to measure and track program progress. The MEAL Coordinator is the key person responsible for overseeing data collection, analysis and learning activities to ensure APA Project goals, targets and reporting requirements are met.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with Bantwana /M&E technical leads to support the development, review and adaptation of the consortium’s M&E systems, SOPs and other guiding frameworks and tools ensuring they are in line with the expected standards and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to M&E staff in executing M&E plans remotely and through regular field visits to ensure data quality and compliance against reporting.
  • Lead in preparation of all donor narrative reports and updates to donors in close coordination with the program manager
  • Prepare MEAL reports for Malawi trustees meeting in collaboration with GAIA MERL coordinator Support preparation of quarterly dashboards to assess high level program performance against targets
  • Ensure maintenance of program databases (including data entry, validation, merging, cleaning and storage).
  • Compile, analyze and disseminate quantitative and qualitative information for improved program decision making.
  • Document good practice and actively share lessons learned, including: developing strategy for identifying, reflecting on and disseminating learning internally and externally.
  • Provide technical leadership on monitoring and reporting, including: conducting trainings and provide support for district staff s in the use of systems and tools for collecting monitoring data.
  • Lead in cascading facility SIMS preparations and assessments
  • Coordinate data quality assessment activities in collaboration with district M&E officers
  • Support implementation and documentation of supportive supervision using the recommended checklist and documentation using the supervision reporting tracker
  • Support the program team in organizing and facilitating program planning and learning meetings.
  • Draw strategic input from key project stakeholders, including technical and M&E leads, to continuously refine and improve project MEAL approaches.

Qualifications and experience requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social science, development economics or a related field with excellent command of various IT packages, those with Master’s degree will have an added advantage.
  • Highly detail oriented individual with 8 years’ experience managing MEAL system with progressive responsibilities.
  • Experience establishing and adapting MEAL systems.
  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative analytical methods, and conducting implementation science research.
  • Experience with USAID reporting requirements and collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) approach
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power point, Google Workspace (Google Drive, Docs and Sheets) Experience using cloud based relational databases like sales force, My SQL or willingness to learn
  • Proficiency developing and managing electronic data collection tools with previous use of at least one of the following systems: Sales force, Magpi, CommCare, and ODK
  • Experience using data analysis software, including STATA, Tableau and GIS software
  • Demonstrated ability to work across teams, geographies and cultures with all levels of staff, management and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English complicated data and information in a clear and concise way.
