Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) is a member of ACT alliance working in the field of Humanitarian Response and Long-term Development. CARD in partnership with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) has secured funding from German Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ) to implement a Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction project in Nsanje district and requires the services of a Project Coordinator. The position will be tenable in Nsanje district.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE PERSON

  • Self-motivated, dynamic with ability to monitor and supervise staff to achieve desired results.
  • Should have strong advocacy skills in disability inclusiveness and mainstreaming in disaster prone areas.
  • Should have knowledge of emergencies and humanitarian response mechanisms that are disability inclusive in Malawi.
  • Should have knowledge and understanding of disability mainstreaming policies at national and regional level for Southern Africa.
  • A devoted Christian with unquestionable Christian values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

The Project Coordinator will provide support in the management and delivery of the DiDRR project.

A. Project Management

  • Support the implementation, monitoring and financial issues of the project.
  • Ensure high quality and timely narrative and financial reports are submitted to CBM.
  • Cultivate excellent working relations between CBM and other implementing partners.
  • Carry out project planning and monitoring visits when required, usually accompanied by other staff.

B. Contracting processes

  • Act as focal person for due diligence and contracting processes with partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure policies of BMZ are followed in the implementation of the project.

C. Strategic support

  • Support the implementation of the project.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of the workplan, which includes work, capacity building and other learning activities.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the project.

D. Partnerships and collaboration

  • Support partnerships for collaborative implementation of disaster risk management interventions, including with Government and partners.
  • Ensure there is disability and, gender and social inclusion in executing the project.
  • Liaising with partners and other institutions in inclusive livelihoods and community based development programmes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall management and coordination of disability inclusive disaster risk reduction project.
  • Supervising, mentoring and guiding staff on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.
  • Mapping the national and regional situation of persons with disabilities in Disaster Risk Reduction policies and mechanisms,
  • Training and mentoring of key stakeholders and duty bearers (government and CSO actors) on Disability-Inclusive DRR.
  • Support the establishment of inclusive Livelihoods activities.
  • Building the advocacy capacity of national Organisations of People with Disability’s on DRR to influence national DRR policy processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

The prospective candidate should possess the following:

  • B.Sc. Degree in Development Studies, International Development, Community Development, Agriculture, Social Science, Disability Studies, and other related fields from reputable and accredited institutions of higher learning.
  • Minimum of 3 working years experience in disability inclusive and mainstreaming projects.
  • Progressive experience of working at least 2 years in the NGO sector in Malawi will have an added advantage.

CODE OF CONDUCT AND RELATED POLICIES

CARD adheres to the ACT Alliance Code of Conduct and the Core Humanitarian Standards, implemented alongside other related policies; such as the CARD Code of Conduct, Safeguarding policy, Antifraud Policy, Disability Policy and the Child Protection Policy. These have been developed to ensure protection of the vulnerable groups from exploitation. The policies clarify the roles and responsibilities of CARD staff, volunteers, visitors, consultants, partner organizations and other stakeholders in their dealings with CARD and rights holders. Candidate to be offered the job will be expected to sign the Code of Conduct and related policies as requirement to their contract of employment. By signing the policies, candidates acknowledge that they have understood the contents of the policies and agree to conduct themselves in accordance with the provisions of those policies.
