MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Post : Foreign Service Officer (Grade I)
Salary : Within the Grade G salary scale segment
Location : Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Qualifications :
Applicants should be in possession of either a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science/International Relations/Development Studies or Bachelor of Social Sciences or Bachelor of Education (Languages), with a bias in UN Languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, Portuguese obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties:

Conducting research on socio- economic and political development;
Coordinating activities of international institutions and their specialized agencies;
Preparing reports and making summaries thereof;
Analyzing and reporting on articles from different publications and their implications on Malawi;
Preparing position papers on bilateral and multilateral socio-economic and political developments in specified geographical regions and advising on Malawi’s position;
Drafting speeches and briefs for delegations attending meetings;
Preparing and attending meetings and reporting on them;
Preparing reports on economic cooperation or joint commission of cooperation;
Implementing and undertaking follow up action on meeting’s decisions;
Processing accreditations of Malawi and Foreign Heads of Missions and International Organizations;
Making appointments and other arrangements for foreign dignitaries wishing to call on
Malawi Government Officials;
Sending and receiving Congratulatory and Condolence messages to and from foreign government; and
Facilitating travel documents, visa applications, repatriations and other consular matters.

Note:
Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be needed during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of appointment (PSR 19).
