Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) with funding from US CDC through the Center for Vaccine Equity, Respiratory Diseases of the Task Force for Global Health Organization, is working with Ministry of Health (MOH) to support COVID-19 vaccination roll-out activities and Sentinel Site surveillance of adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination in selected sites.
Consequently, it seeks to appoint qualified, self-motivated and talented individuals to work in the following position:
Site Surveillance Officer (6 positions across the country)
Type of contract and duration
Initial contract is for one year with possibility of further extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (KUHES) and Ministry of Health COVID-19 vaccine
safety officer (MOH), the officer will provide technical support, be responsible for planning,
setting up, coordinating. implementing, monitoring and evaluating COVID-19 vaccines site surveillance and related activities In close collaboration with all stakeholders in the implementing sites. S/he will work closely with MOH personnel at all levels of health care system, NGOs and academic institutions to achieve the goals of the surveillance program. S/he will also be responsible for effective and efficient resource planning and management.
Key areas of responsibility:
Specific responsibilities will include:
Setting up the sentinel site for surveillance program.
Planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating COVID-surveillance activities at the implementing site in collaboration with stakeholders.
Lead in the identification, documentation, patient charts abstraction and reporting of COVID-19 vaccine AESI and AEFI cases at the surveillance implementing sites.
Enrolment and follow-up of study participants for the surveillance program.
Data entry, consolidation and reviews using electronic and manual systems including the DHIS2.
Conduct, plan, organize and facilitate meetings and trainings of health care workers and stakeholders
Assist and provide technical input in the development, reviews and piloting of training materials and data collection tools for the surveillance program.
Develop, maintain and systematically file the electronic and manual records for the surveillance program.
Work with the administration team to ensure all activities are implemented timely and within approved budgets.
Assist, administer and manage project funds where necessary.
Produce reports and presentations for meetings, conferences, donors and ethics submissions to regulatory bodies as requested,
Accomplish all other tasks as assigned.
At least a University degree in Clinical Medicine, Nursing, MBBS or related fields. Those
with advanced diploma and a least 5 years of reputable performance and experience in similar position will be considered.
Technical and professional requirements:
To perform these duties, the surveillance officer should have:
Experience working with Ministry of Health, government departments, Non-governmental Organisations and donor agencies.
Clinical or nursing practice experience
Registered with Medical or Nurses Council as is appropriate.
Previous experience using, developing and field testing research and Ministry of Health programs’ data tools.
Capacities to work independently, in a team setting and collaborative environment.
Experience coordinating health programs or research including facilitation of meetings or trainings.
Good communication and presentation skills,
Ability to focus on details and excellent writing skills.
Familiarity with use of electronic devices such as tablets for electronic data capture.
