Job Description

Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team, at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme in Blantyre, Malawi.

This role will form part of a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded project and you will be focused on developing and implementing interventions to prevent healthcare associated infection (HAI), an area for which there is still gaps in the processes of translating the best evidence into practice. In the Malawi context, it is important to know which Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) implementation strategies are the most effective to reduce HAI.

The aim for the role is to support a programme of work in developing effective, acceptable and scalable interventions to reduce HAI in Africa.

You will evaluate current IPC practice in hospitals in Southern Malawi and explore whether and how the WHO framework for IPC implementation can be used, how it may be adapted to the Malawian setting and any barriers / enablers there are to its application.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high quality qualitative research
  • Collaborate with consortium partners in the UK and Africa
  • Write visit reports and draft publications
  • Implement research in line with all funding and administrative requirements
  • Finalise research protocols for second phase of Capacity Building Initiative project
  • Develop evidence-based tools for collecting data from consortium members

Analyse data and translate into transferable, evidence-based recommendation

Requirements

We are seeking candidates that can demonstrate:

  • PhD* – implementation science or equivalent, with strong skills in qualitative methodology
  • Experience of capacity strengthening, preferably in an African setting and ideally in Malawi
  • Knowledge and behaviours that support equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
  • Please note – this position will be based in Malawi

*Evidence of PhD submission will be acceptable for this role

Salary:

£36,387 to £40,927 perannum
