The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of  Maternal Newborn and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN)  Technical Coordinator  (1 position) under PDQ department. The role holder will work closely with Senior Technical Advisor, Health and Nutrition, to support the design and delivery of Save the Children’s health and nutrition programmes in Malawi. In addition, s/he will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of health and nutrition activities in the Abwenzi a Ana project in the respective catchment district and as guided by the program goals, objectives and implementation frameworks. Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Advisor – Health and Nutrition, the MNCHN Coordinator will provide technical assistance to the District Health Management Teams, Health Facilities and Communities to implement and monitor Abwenzi a Ana program and other MNCHN activities in the district and where assigned. The MNCHN Coordinator will focus on strengthening capacity of the health system at district, health facility and community level and enable sustainable delivery of the Abwenzi a Ana Program interventions and services.   He/she will also be responsible for establishing and strengthening good coordination with government leadership structures including the entire District Health Teams, District Administration and other Local Government structures.

The Maternal Newborn and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) Coordinator will report to the Senior Technical Adviser Health and Nutrition, with a dotted line to the Programme Manager. S/he will work closely with Traditional Authority Facilitators and Community volunteers, as well as with other Technical Coordinators and other program team members from Abwenzi a Ana project, including government and implementing partners. H/she will support the setup and launch, implementation and transitioning to government ownership of the Abwenzi a Ana program in Ntcheu.


In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Public Health or related field or equivalent qualifications.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in working in Public Health
  • At least three years’ work experience gained through supporting implementation of health programs and with proven ability to coordinate activities of different stakeholders at district and or sub-district Prior experience in/understanding of referral networks and health emergency transportation/transfer projects is an added advantage.
  • Experience in working communities with good knowledge of the public health system and structures. Understanding of key Maternal Newborn and Child Health Issues, interventions and challenges in Malawi is an added advantage.
  • Strong experience in coordinating with districts, health facilities and mobilising communities while working with partners and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with different program partners and stakeholders to achieve collective program targets and goals
  • Ability to identify and manage program risks, proactively addressing or reporting issues before they affect program performance and stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to make linkages between interventions/programs.
