The College of Medicine (CoM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Its mission is to be an academic centre of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbours within the Southern African region. In pursuit of the mission, the CoMis inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following two posts of Lecturers in Palliative Care.
Reporting to the Head of Department, the Lecturer will be expected to undertake teaching, research, administrative and community engagement work and activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Among other duties and responsibilities, the Lecturer will be expected to:
Develop and teach palliative care modules and set up best learning approaches
Carry out assessment, monitor and evaluate students’ academic work and provide academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities
Set and manage examinations
Develop, provide oversight and manage teaching timetables
Provide academic input on existing and new courses and course development as appropriate
Carry out research, consultancy and outreach activities in field of specialty
Provide clinical service and supervise students during clinical classes and attachments in recognized teaching hospitals
Supervise students’ research projects.
Provide academic leadership in the area of specialization
Qualifications and Requirements
A minimum of MBBS or equivalent medical or nursing qualification plus Master’s degree in Palliative Medicine or related field
Experience in delivery of palliative care in primary or specialist setting.
Extensive teaching experience, including both development and delivery of a variety of teaching tools
Knowledge and understanding of delivery of palliative care in low resource settings (experience working in Africa or similar setting preferable)
Those with proven record of ability to attract funding and to conduct high quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high quality publications or other research outputs in their relevant fields shall have added advantage.
Skills and Personal Attributes

Competent in the use of computer packages, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and software packages
Ability to prioritize and co-ordinate work
Team player with ability to work in a collaborative environment
