VSO is the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers to create a fair world for everyone. At VSO we pride ourselves on doing development differently. We fight poverty not by sending aid, but by working through volunteers and partners to create long-lasting change in some of the world’s poorest regions. We bring key stakeholders together to co-ordinate collective action, from local organisations to national governments. Our programmes in Africa and Asia focus on health, education and livelihoods, with an increasing emphasis on resilience, peace building, social accountability, gender and social inclusion. We’re not about delivering quick fixes, but instead we focus on long-lasting, sustainable change that will improve the lives of generations to come.

Role overview

Do you live and breathe social media? Are you passionate about using your social media skills and expertise to help improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people? VSO are looking for a savvy social media expert to develop and deliver VSO’s global social media strategy, as well as the day-to-day management of our social media calendar. We’ll need your understanding of the debates and issues around UK Aid to engage with wider, relevant conversations on social media and a proactive attitude to ensuring that VSO’s voice is heard. You’ll play a crucial role in helping us to deepen our relationship with supporters and returned volunteers, in addition to helping us reach new audiences. You’ll also train and work with colleagues to ensure good social media across the organisation.

You will have significant experience developing and delivering social media channel strategies. You may be coming from a charity background or the private sector, but you’ll need a passion for international development. With an excellent working knowledge of social media platforms, you’ll be proficient in day to day social media content and community management. With excellent writing skills, you’ll create social media content that engages a wide variety of audiences and channels.
