St John Malawi is a non-profit organization with a dedicated team of volunteers working to deliver first aid and healthcare services to vulnerable members of the community in Malawi. We provide commercial first aid services and deliver health focused projects supported by international donors. St John seeks a new staff member to be part of the team in a small and friendly office in Limbe, Blantyre.
Assistant Project Officer – St John Malawi
Assistant Project Officer (APO) is frontline officer who works closely with volunteers (community) and frontline public health workers that provide health services with understanding of the community being served. S/he educates the community through government health workers about health issues and empowering them in the prevention of spreading diseases.
The Assistant Project Officer serves as a bridge between the community, the health care services (government) and St John Council Malawi.
RESPONSIBLE TO : Head of Projects (HoP)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Helping individuals, households, groups and communities develop their health care plans, capacity and access to services, including quality care and health information
Helping community health care volunteers by coordinating assessment, trainings, planning, and providing of needed health and related services.
Provides health information by instructing family; maintaining health and prevention of disease for family members; teaching preventive health, maternal and child care; providing instructions in other subjects related to individual and community welfare.
Facilitating child health and immunization activities through relevant frontline government officials
Helping households and community to build understanding and social capital to support healthier behaviours and lifestyle choices
Produce monthly reports for departmental activities, quarterly comprehensive reports for health programmes and formulate annual work plans and budgets
Supporting any other duties as assigned and required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
A minimum of Diploma in Public Health/Nursing, with 3 years’ work experience; those with a Degree will be added advantage
Experience with implementing donor funded programme/projects a MUST;
Good verbal communication, report writing and presentation skills in English;
Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimum supervision;
Ability to work with others and to maintain compatibility among staff and partners;
Working understanding of NGO operations and project implementation;
Ability to identify needs and pro-actively make improvements.
