POSITION: COMMUNICATION, MEDIA AND ADVOCACY ASSISTANT

About us

NGO CCR is a national Coalition of NGOs and networks whose broad goal is to entrench child rights programming in all development processes in Malawi anchored under the four fundamental principles of the rights of the Child: Non-discrimination; The best interest of the child; Right to life, survival and development; and Participation within the evolving capacities of the Child. The main goal for the organization is to ensure that Children in Malawi are protected and live a life free from violence and abuse at all times through visibility, increased Voice and age appropriate participation.

Purpose

NGO CCR intends to recruit an Intern to support the effective management of Communication, media and advocacy content of programs and projects, tenable at its Secretariat office in Lilongwe.

The position is on  temporary fixed term of initially 5 months contract , renewable depending on performance and availability of donor funding.

Key duties and responsibilities

The Project Officer will be expected to perform the following major duties and responsibilities.

  1. The Intern will support in development of Communications, Media and Advocacy content which will on one hand support the dissemination of information instantly to all stakeholders using WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and the Facebook, while on the other hand to ensure that strategic objectives are achieved.
  2. Intern will ensure that the Communication, Media and Advocacy content is fully implemented laying foundation for documenting Progress Reports, Quarterly Narrative Reports, Periodic Reports, Annual Reports and End-line Evaluation Reports.
  3. Intern will ensure that in the process of performing tasks described in (i) and (ii) above, NGO CCR generated sufficient information for knowledge management, facilitate and stimulate tangible information sharing amongst members’ cost effectively,
  4. Assist with public relations collateral, support the development of IEC materials, sorting and prioritizing social media content
  5. Perform other communication related tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualification, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Graduates with no longer than 1 year from a duly recognized and accredited National Council for Higher Learning institution with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Media, Mass Communicsation or its equivalent.
  • Familiarity, competence and optimum utilization of social media to support effective communication and media institutional strategy.
  • Outgoing and initiative-taking person with a goal oriented mind-set with good command of written and spoken communication,
  • Aggressive in promoting organization learning and knowledge, build strategic partnership with like-minded institution.
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude, interest and motivation in working in a non-state actor organization with particular focus on child rights,
  • Demonstrates inter-cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Communicates effectively when working in teams and independently,
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools PowerPoint Graphics skills.
