Background

Farm Radio Trust (FRT) is an indigenous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), whose main goal is promotion of information for sustainable livelihoods of farmers through innovative agriculture extension and advisory service delivery using radio enhanced by ICTs.

Job Title: Content, Innovation & Mainstreaming Specialist (CIMS)
Supervisor Title: Director of Programs at Farm Radio Trust (FRT)
Type of Employment: One Year Contract Position subject to on funding availability and performance.
Position Location: FRT National Offices (Lilongwe) with periodic field travel

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is aimed at contributing towards achievement of the FRT vision of information for sustainable livelihoods for farmers through development of sound, evidence-based and scientifically proven agricultural technologies and services in all fields of agriculture. Specifically, the CIMS shall contribute towards achievement of the design, development, implementation and mainstreaming of content for digital extension approaches that increase access and availability of information for farmers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Mobilize partnerships and engage with sector players and knowledge partners under specific thematic areas to support the analysis, development, monitoring and evaluation of content at all levels of programming to ensure technical accuracy and relevance of the content to improve livelihoods of farming families.
• Provide capacity building of radio station partners, FRT staff, and other related partners on different content themes and emerging issues in rural livelihoods development
• Lead mainstreaming of emerging issues such as gender; climate change and others in the digital extension and advisory services at FRT and its partners. Develop models and systems for mainstreaming at organisational and programming level.
• Coordinate the content and advisory thematic team in content needs assessment, designing and packaging of content for different digital platforms
• Support management in developing and implementing policies for mainstreaming within organisation and programming of FRT
• Support the design of monitoring and evaluation services on rural livelihoods with particular focus on evidence based digital extension programming: content monitoring, and measurement of farmer acquisition of knowledge, uptake of practices and impact on livelihoods
• Work closely with Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist is designing research and the development of reports associated with FRT interventions and associated projects, publications and other knowledge management products related to rural livelihoods extension systems in the context of digital extension programming for FRT.
• Support the data and knowledge management officer and ME&L Specialist and Communication Specialist in developing publications and documentation of lessons learnt in FRT programming to demonstrate outputs and impact.
• Participate in program development through concepts and proposal writing and leading content and advisory thematic team
• Support project management, through documentation of reports, implementation of project activities and financial management and accountability
• Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience
• A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or rural development
• Related 5 years hands on experience in the development and management of radio for development

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Aptitudes
• Excellent skills in agriculture research, Monitoring and evaluation
• Experience in program design, development and management
• Skills in capacity building both at local, national and international level
• Good communication, writing, networking and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to working with farmers
